Take A Look At Helpful Tips for Cheap Health Insurance for Student.
It is a good idea to search for cheap health insurance for students, especially for those who are in college because unanticipated medical expenses could cause them to drop out. Many colleges and universities have already made student health insurance a prerequisite, precisely because they have found that a major cause of drop outs is the sudden need to pay for unexpected medical bills.
This may be a positive development because college health insurance for students is oftentimes neglected in all the excitement of parents sending their kids to college. For students who are coming from a foreign land, they may be covered by the national health insurance of their home country. Students and/or their parents may find it advisable to consult with school advisers so that they can fully understand the available choices.
Luckily for some students, the health insurance of their parents will be able to cover for them, that is, until they reach the age of 26. However, buying individual health insurance for the student may actually be advisable because of the possibility that the student will find it difficult to find affordable health insurance when he has attained the age of 26 because of a pre-existing condition. Benefits that are similar to those that are available with the group health insurance plan of the parent may be provided by major insurance companies. Coverage that could last until the age of 65 is reached may even be available.
It should be pointed out that individual health insurance may cost more compared to cheap health insurance for students that is available through a college or university but they are still affordable. While the insurance provided by the educational institution may be cheap, it may be minimal with regards to its benefits. Finding the most appropriate but affordable health insurance is an important task for students and parents because a college education represents a considerable expense and reducing costs is vital.
The first step in looking for cheap health insurance for students is to define the maximum amount of premium that will be acceptable. This will be based on the budget and the available funding. If possible, annual or semi-annual payments should be chosen instead of monthly payments because discounts are provided for semi-annual and annual payment schedules. Moreover, you will have more time to come up with the payment when compared to monthly payments where it becomes a problem each month. Meanwhile, it should be pointed out that it may be difficult to find the insurance company that offers a premium that matches your budget for cheap health insurance. With this kind of situation, you may have to intensify your search efforts. The key is not to give up too fast because a number of insurance firms do not have low-cost options.

Searching Cheap Health Insurance Student – Making a Wise Choice in Student Health
It is now becoming a common requirement at many colleges for students to prove that they are covered by a form of medical insurance before they can even enroll. While parents can choose to cover their children under their own group health insurance policy, this can sometimes become too expensive to maintain under the plan. The student also has the option of buying individual health insurance student, however the eligibility requirements for a private plan are often too restrictive. Pre-existing conditions are generally not covered, and these plans may be too costly for a student who is already worried about paying off their college tuition.
For those looking for health insurance student, schools typically provide coverage through affordable student health plans with eligibility requirements that are less strict than private individual plans. Under these plans visits and consultations made at the school health center or other designated providers within a certain distance from the school are generally provided free of charge.
Other health-related services such as laboratory work and x-rays are usually also free of charge or at least at a lower cost. Health insurance student benefits can still be received away from the school health center but will likely not be as comprehensive and will usually involve a deductible. Coverage may vary from school-to-school and plan-to-plan. Try to determine if your college health insurance provides coverage during vacations. It is important to compare all available options and determine if health insurance student is a good fit or if staying under the parent’s plan is more advisable.
If the student plans under your chosen school aren’t a good fit or don’t provide desired coverage, one still has the option of buying individual health insurance student poloicies. Screening processes are typically more rigorous compared to school-sponsored plans. Criteria for eligibility can vary from various providers. Parents can also cover their children under their own group health policy. In this way the student can be assured of no interruptions in coverage and not have to worry about restrictions that student health insurance can typically put on health-care providers. But take note, that coverage will often only cover the child until the age of 19 or 23, or in some cases as late as 25.
These health insurance student policies may also require the student to be enrolled full-time so if they go below a certain number of credit hours they can risk not being covered by the plan. If a student has been phased out of their parent’s plan then they can also take advantage of their employers policy provided that they work full-time. Also health insurance student is usually only provided at the beginning of the year. Students looking to take advantage will not be able to do so in the middle of the year.

Ken asks…
What should I consider when choosing between temporary health insurance policies?
I am finished with graduate school soon and need to come up with a temporary health insurance since my student benefits end in a week! I am really pretty healthy and don`t smoke. I just want a policy for health maintenance and to cover me incase of emergency. Less than 100 dollars a month.

jeremy answers:
Check out websites for Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, Golden Rule and Cigna. You should be able to run quotes for yourself right on their websites. I would look for something with a $2,500 deductible. Sometimes these plans have copay options for going to the doctor and pharmacy benefits. Depends on the carrier. You can get a temp plan for a month to a year. If you get a plan for less than a year, you have one more chance during the year to renew that policy for another term. The application process is a lot less invasive than applying for full coverage and usually you are covered one day after submitting the application. This can be done online as well. Very easy and very good call. Temp insurance is better than none. Keep in mind, as you go from student benefits to temp coverage to possibly group coverage that you shouldn’t go longer than 63 days without coverage. Once you hit that 64th day, anything you are currently dealing with health-wise is considered a pre-existing condition and will only be covered after a waiting period. One year for individual coverage and six month for group.

Temporary health insurance post graduation but before employment?
My graduate school’s health insurance coverage ends after this month, as I will have officially graduated from the program, however, I am not yet employed (I need to study for and pass a national certification exam first). I live in Washington DC and am clueless regarding where to look for the best temporary health insurance policy, but I would like a plan that covers prescription drugs without needing to meet a super-high deductible. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Lizzie asks…
What is the cheapest way to get temporary health insurance?
I’m leaving one company to start at a much smaller one that does not offer health insurance at first. What is the cheapest way I can get covered for less than 6 months with the least amount of hassle?
Living now in NY, NY; relocating to SF, CA. No chronic problems, just a prescription to fill every month and a fear of being hit by a car and having to pay outrageous bills…

jeremy answers:
There are many providers of short-term i.e. temporary health insurance that would probably meet your needs. I had a great experience with an online provider, Clear Blue Insurance. Great site, really easy to deal with and a good choice of plans.

Carol asks…
What are cheapest health insurance plans?
I don’t have a job right now but I need insurance because I’m on much needed medication.

jeremy answers:
The problem you’ll have is not finding a cheapest health insurance plan but in finding a plan that will cover your medications. Most pre-existing conditions will not be covered without a waiting period and with some conditions you can be declined. Contact a local agent that works with all of the major companies in your area. The agent can work with you to find a company that may accept you and on what terms. There is no charge using an agent.
FYI – depending on the condition and company the possible terms will be full acceptance, accept but not cover your condition for a period of time, accept and not cover your condition permanently, accept and cover with an increased premium, accept with an increased premium and still not cover your condition for a period of time, or outright decline to accept you.

Thomas asks…
California – Cheapest health insurance plans?
I don’t make a lot of money so far.

jeremy answers:
Medi-Cal. If you have children and make too much money for medi-cal you might qualify for healthy families. It is for working families that make too much money for medi-cal.
Healthy Families is a great program for kids. And, it’s dirt cheap. Only problem is that it does not cover adults.

James asks…
Is a person allowed to have 2 health insurance plans at the same time?
I have cheapest health insurance that has a $4,000 deductible. I want to see a doctor. Can I open a new policy with a different company that has a low deductible, go to the doctor, and then cancel the new policy? I will save a lot of money if I do this.
I don’t want to cancel my original policy. I just want a temporary better policy so I will avoid the deductible.

jeremy answers:
You can have a primary and a secondary insurance. If you are interested in canceling the first policy then you will have to show them that you are currently being covered by another policy. Good luck.

Sharon asks…
What is the cheapest health insurance plan in texas?

jeremy answers:

Robert asks…
What is the cheapest Health Insurance Plan (Temporary)?
I just need 6 month coverage because as we all know since Obama passed this health reform I will be going back on my parents insurance

jeremy answers:
Companies do not write policies in every state. You’ll need to contact a local agent that works with all of the major companies in YOUR state to find the best plan for cheapest health insurance. The premium is the same using an agent or doing it yourself and you’ll have someone local that can explain what you get and, more importantly, what you don’t get with any policy.
BTW – That portion of the bill goes into effect 9/23/10. You can go back on your parents’ plan when in RENEWS after that date. Policies can renew at any time during the year and on the first of a month, so if you’re unfortunate enough that your policy renews in September you’ll have to wait until September 1 2011 before you can get back on the plan.
